The Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, the Rt. Hon. Martins Chike Amaewhule, has officially inaugurated a newly constructed, ultra-modern secondary school in Eliozu, situated within the Obio-Akpor Local Government Area. The facility stands as a hallmark of his commitment to constituency development and the elevation of educational standards in the region.

The comprehensive project features a six-classroom block, a modern library, dedicated staff offices, and essential restroom facilities for both students and teaching staff. Furthermore, to ensure an uninterrupted learning environment, the Speaker has equipped the school with a power generator and various modern pedagogical amenities.

Addressing the gathering during the commissioning ceremony, the Speaker articulated that the project serves as a testament to his unwavering dedication to fostering educational growth within his constituency. Reflecting on the timeline of the development, Mr. Amaewhule disclosed that he personally facilitated the acquisition of the two plots of land required for the site, which had previously grappled with a severe shortage of classroom space. Construction, he noted, commenced in November 2025 and reached completion within a span of seven months.

Mr. Amaewhule expressed profound gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that the project received critical approval during the period of a state of emergency in Rivers State. “This project is a testament to the Federal Government’s commitment to improving educational infrastructure and supporting the aspirations of our people,” the Speaker remarked.

He further extended tribute to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike, hailing him as the political leader of Rivers State. The Speaker credited Chief Wike with providing the unwavering support and guidance necessary to execute projects that directly impact the livelihoods of the grassroots populace.

Demonstrating his ongoing dedication to the current student body, the Speaker announced a pledge to shoulder the full cost of fuel and maintenance for the school’s generator throughout the duration of the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). This initiative is intended to ensure that candidates can complete their assessments within a conducive and well-lit environment. In addition to these provisions, Mr. Amaewhule distributed cash gifts and 150 bags of rice to the students, offering his best wishes for their academic success.

The Speaker highlighted that this educational initiative is part of a broader development portfolio spanning all wards within the Obio/Akpor State Constituency I, encompassing markets, town halls, and healthcare facilities.

Beyond local infrastructure, the occasion served as a platform for the Speaker to advocate for the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He underscored major ongoing federal interventions, such as the Eleme section of the East-West Road and the Bonny-Bodo Road, as tangible evidence of the Federal Government’s commitment to Rivers State. Mr. Amaewhule urged residents to support the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its slate of candidates, including Kingsley Ogundu Chinda for Governor; himself for the House of Representatives; and Leslie Ejekwu for the Obio/Akpor State Constituency I.

The inauguration drew a significant assembly of political leaders, traditional rulers, and community stakeholders. Chief Tony Okocha, the Chairman of the APC in Rivers State, lauded Mr. Amaewhule as “a man of excellence,” urging the students to treat the facility with the care required to preserve it for future generations.

Dr. Gift Worlu, Chairman of the Obio/Akpor Local Government Council, praised the project as a practical demonstration of “genuine love and selfless service,” noting that the facility was conceptualised and funded specifically for the advancement of the community’s youth.

Representing the 10th Rivers State House of Assembly, the Majority Leader, Major Jack, commended the Speaker’s visionary leadership, asserting that the Assembly remains proud of his efforts in delivering democratic dividends to the electorate.

The Principal of the Community Secondary School, Eliozu, concluded the proceedings by expressing her profound appreciation for what she described as a “transformational intervention,” which is set to significantly enhance the academic ambience for students in the years to come.
