His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, the Executive Governor of Rivers State, has asserted that the ongoing construction of a dedicated residential estate for Commissioners and Special Advisers is a strategic move designed to enhance administrative efficiency, curtail public expenditure, and fortify security protocols.
Following a comprehensive inspection of the site on Thursday in Port Harcourt, the Governor underscored that the 25-unit estate, comprising bespoke six-bedroom flats was conceived to address the long-standing absence of official accommodation for the State’s senior-most officials.
Governor Fubara expressed a firm stance on the necessity of the project, describing the continued reliance on rented private accommodation for high-ranking government functionaries as “embarrassing” for the State. He noted that the substantial financial burden of these rentals necessitated a permanent and sustainable housing solution.
“It has become imperative to move away from the exorbitant costs associated with private leases,” the Governor stated. “By investing in this permanent infrastructure, we are ensuring that government resources are utilised with greater prudence and foresight.”
Beyond the financial implications, the Governor highlighted the significant operational benefits of the project. By housing the members of the State Executive Council within a single, purpose-built enclave, the administration intends to foster a more collaborative working environment and improve overall productivity.
The centralised nature of the estate also presents a formidable security advantage. Governor Fubara noted that the arrangement would allow for a streamlined, unified security apparatus, thereby reducing the logistical strain and costs associated with individual security details.
“When they are all living together, it makes it easier for us to have one unit of security, and this multiple carrying of police will stop,” the Governor remarked, highlighting a move towards more efficient personnel deployment.
Expressing satisfaction with the current pace of construction, Sir Siminalayi commended the contractors for their visible progress and adherence to the high standards expected by his administration.
The estate is projected for completion and formal inauguration in November 2026. Governor Fubara concluded by stating that the project is intended to be a durable and high-quality addition to the State’s infrastructure, serving as a lasting legacy of his administration’s commitment to institutional excellence.
