A fresh legal battle has erupted over the Accord Party’s governorship ticket in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 general elections. Honourable Olakunle Busari, a prominent contender within the party, has filed a suit at the Federal High Court in Ibadan seeking the immediate disqualification of Mr. Oriyomi Hamzat as the party’s flagbearer.
In the suit marked FHC/IB/CS/97/26, filed through Senior Advocate of Nigeria Tunji Ogunrinde, Busari asks the court to direct the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to remove Hamzat’s name from its portal and substitute it with his own. Busari maintains that he is the legitimate winner of the direct governorship primary held on May 26, 2026, where he claims to have polled the highest number of votes.
The legal action alleges that party leaders clandestinely uploaded Hamzat’s name to the INEC portal despite his alleged failure to participate in the primary election process. Beyond seeking candidate substitution, Busari is asking the court for a perpetual injunction to restrain INEC from recognizing Hamzat’s nomination, while simultaneously seeking to stop Hamzat from parading himself as the Accord Party’s candidate for the 2027 race.
