The management of the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE) has formally released the programme of events for its 44th Convocation Ceremony. The week-long series of events, as detailed in a statement signed by the Registrar and Secretary to the Council, Dr Chinonye A. Ajie, aims to celebrate academic excellence and foster intellectual discourse on national development.

The proceedings are scheduled to commence on Sunday, 3rd May, with a Convocation Church Service at the Chapel of Transfiguration, Rumuolumeni, beginning at 10:00 am.

Later that afternoon, the academic community will gather at the University Auditorium for the highly anticipated Convocation Lecture. The lecture, titled “Restructuring Tertiary Education for Sustainable National Development,” will be delivered at 1:00 pm by the distinguished Professor Nlerum S. Okogbule, the former Vice-Chancellor of Rivers State University.

Following the lecture, the University will host a luncheon and an award ceremony at 4:00 pm in the same venue, where individuals who have made significant contributions to the institution and society will be honoured.

The pinnacle of the festivities, the graduation ceremonies, will take place over two days: Friday, 8th May: The University will award First Degrees and prizes to deserving graduands who have completed their courses of study with distinction. The ceremony is slated to begin at 9:00 am at the University Auditorium.

Saturday, 9th May: The institution will conclude the convocation activities with the conferment of Higher Degrees. This session, also scheduled for 9:00 am at the Auditorium, will celebrate those attaining postgraduate academic milestones.

According to reports seen by Africa Update, the schedule has been meticulously planned to ensure a seamless and prestigious celebration for the graduands, their families, and the wider university community.

As the university prepares for this 44th edition, the choice of Professor Okogbule as guest lecturer underscores the institution’s commitment to addressing the systemic challenges facing the Nigerian educational sector in its quest for sustainable national growth.
