The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has officially recognised Hon. David E. Oguzierem as the substantive Chairman of the party’s Rivers State chapter.
In a move intended to solidify the party’s internal structure, the NEC, under the leadership of the National Chairman, Alhaji Shehu Gabam, issued a formal communication to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). This correspondence serves to authenticate Hon. Oguzierem’s position as the legitimate head of the SDP in Rivers State.
The Independent National Electoral Commission has acknowledged receipt of the NEC’s resolution, further affirming Hon. Oguzierem’s standing. This recognition by the nation’s electoral umpire is a pivotal development, providing the necessary legal and administrative backing to his leadership.
With this official endorsement, any prior ambiguity regarding the state’s party leadership appears to have been resolved. The confirmation ensures that the Rivers State chapter remains aligned with the national leadership’s strategic objectives and constitutional framework.
Party insiders suggest that this development is a critical step in strengthening the SDP’s presence within the South-South region. By establishing a clear and uncontested leadership hierarchy, the party aims to enhance its organisational efficiency and electoral readiness.
“This formalisation establishes Hon. David E. Oguzierem as the authentic voice of the Social Democratic Party in Rivers State,” a source within the national secretariat noted. “It underscores our commitment to due process and internal discipline.”
Africa Update reports that the announcement has been met with approval from various stakeholders within the party, who view the NEC’s decision as a necessary measure to ensure stability and focus as the political landscape continues to evolve. Hon. Oguzierem is now expected to lead the party’s administrative and political engagements across the state’s twenty-three local government areas.
