Michael Orabiyi, popularly known as Scribz Riley, has spoken publicly for the first time following the death of his brother and close associate, Talay Riley, whose birth name was Yinka Orabiyi.
Talay Riley was reportedly stabbed to death in Silvertown, East London, on 5 June 2026, in an incident that has shocked fans, friends and members of the music industry.
In an emotional tribute shared on Instagram, Scribz Riley reflected on his final conversation with his brother, revealing that they had spoken shortly before Talay went to sleep.
According to him, their discussion centred on hope, future ambitions and the goals they still hoped to accomplish together, unaware that it would be their final exchange.
“Just before he went to sleep, we spoke about the future, staying positive and about everything we still had left to do. I never imagined that would be our last conversation,” he wrote.
Describing the depth of their relationship, Scribz said Talay was far more than a friend or musical collaborator, portraying him as a brother, mentor and source of inspiration whose influence extended far beyond his immediate family.
“Yinka wasn’t just my brother. He was my mother’s son, a friend to many, a mentor, an inspiration, and a light in so many people’s lives,” he said.
The grieving musician praised his brother’s generosity, kindness and unwavering support for others, noting that he possessed one of the most compassionate hearts he had ever known.
He reflected on the profound impact Talay had on those around him, saying his legacy would continue to live on through his music, family, friendships and the countless lives he touched during his lifetime.
According to Scribz, Talay consistently gave of himself to others and left behind memories that would endure for years to come.
Born into a Nigerian family in London, Talay Riley developed a passion for music from an early age. Influenced by his siblings and the sounds that defined the early 1990s, he began singing when he was just five years old.
His musical career gained wider recognition in 2009 when he featured on the hit single Look for Me by British rapper Chipmunk. The song achieved chart success in the United Kingdom and helped establish Talay Riley as a respected figure within the British music scene.
Tributes have continued to pour in from fans and fellow musicians since news of his death emerged, with many remembering him for his talent, humility and contribution to contemporary music.
In his closing remarks, Scribz Riley expressed heartbreak at the loss of a life he believed was taken far too soon.
“Even with everything you accomplished, this was far too soon. I love you, brother. Thank you for everything. Rest in paradise, Yinka,” he wrote.
As family, friends and supporters continue to mourn his passing, Scribz Riley’s tribute has served as a poignant reminder of the bond the brothers shared and of the future plans that were tragically cut short by Talay Riley’s untimely death.
