A chief Magistrate court in Port Harcourt, presided over by chief magistrate, Andrew Amadi-Nna, has on Monday, adjourned indefinitely the murder trial of two suspected killers of a staff of an online shopping company(jumia), Eleje Chukwuma .
The two suspects, Sodienye Mbatumukekej, Excel Naabe and Joy Eluwa, were dragged before the court by the police for conspiracy, robbery and murder.
The police in its charge sheet alleged that the accused, on March 25, at 1, Ada-Ede Street, Shell Location, Mgbuoba, Port Harcourt, did murder the Jumia online shopping store staff with a mortar’s pestle, dispossessing him of an Infinix Note 3 phone, valued at N67,000, Gionee M6 phone, valued at N105,000, and IM 10 desktop GSM dual SIM phone valued at N9,500 totaling N181,000.
In his ruling, the Chief Magistrate said his court could not take their plea, because it lacked jurisdiction over the matter, adding that the case file be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions, DPP, for legal advice, and advised the accused to seek bail at a state high court.
Two of the accused were present at the court, while Joy Eluwa was not.
Meanwhile, the brother of the deceased Jumia staff, Dothi, said the widow and children of the victim, have been exposed to financial problems, since the incident, stating further that the landlord had issued eviction notice to them.
He appealed to the online shopping company to assist with his burial.
