Police in Gigiri, Nairobi, have launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death of an 86-year-old woman, Dorita Macharia, who was found dead at her residence in the Loresho neighbourhood on Friday.

Six persons of interest have been arrested in connection with the incident and are being detained at Gigiri Police Station pending further investigations. Two of the suspects are reportedly close relatives of the deceased.

According to the family’s lawyer, Senior Counsel Philip Murgor, Mrs Macharia was allegedly attacked inside her home and sustained injuries which resulted in her death.

Murgor, who spoke to Citizen TV, disclosed that the deceased’s body was discovered inside the residence with visible injuries, while blood was reportedly found at various locations within the premises.

“We found the body there. She had injuries. There was quite a bit of blood in the premises. All we can say, it didn’t look natural,” he said.

The senior lawyer further disclosed that one of the deceased’s sons was among those in police custody after he was reportedly found within the premises.

Police have yet to establish the precise circumstances surrounding the death, as investigations continue to determine what transpired at the residence and the possible involvement of those arrested.

The six suspects are expected to be arraigned in court on Monday, where investigators are expected to provide further details concerning the case.

Authorities have not yet publicly established the motive for the alleged killing, and the circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.
