A coalition of concerned stakeholders within the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed profound concern over the protracted delay in the release of the party’s primary election results, urgently calling upon the leadership to provide clarity on the outcomes of exercises conducted across the federation.

Speaking at a well-attended press conference in the federal capital, the stakeholders highlighted that ten days had elapsed since the primary elections were held across various constituencies and local government areas, yet official results remain conspicuously unannounced.

The pressure group, led by Co-Convener Uche Uzomba, began by commending the party’s hierarchy notably its National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson; National Chairman, Senator Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe; members of the National Working Committee; state executives; and the Lagos State Chairman, Hon. King Okunnaye for their tireless efforts in building the political platform.

They also lauded the high-profile emergence of the former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, and the former Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, as the party’s presidential candidates ahead of the 2027 general election, characterizing the development as a clear reflection of the NDC’s commitment to listening to the yearnings of ordinary Nigerians.

However, the stakeholders warned that the continued delay in publishing the official primary election results has generated deep uncertainty among aspirants, party faithful, and broader supporters.

According to the group, the information vacuum has fueled intense speculation, with multiple aspirants reportedly claiming victory in the exact same contests. This lack of clarity has triggered widespread confusion and mounting tension among rival supporter bases.

Furthermore, the coalition expressed grave concerns over growing allegations that certain results may be altered behind closed doors to favor preferred aspirants. While acknowledging that these claims remain unverified, they noted that the leadership’s silence has created a fertile environment for rumors and misinformation to thrive.

The group also alleged that certain individuals were invoking the names of highly influential party leaders in a calculated attempt to manipulate public perception regarding the outcomes of the primaries.

The stakeholders warned that prolonged uncertainty risks severely undermining confidence in the NDC’s internal democratic processes, weakening morale among loyal supporters, and handing political opponents the ammunition to question the party’s foundational credibility.

“As a relatively new political party seeking to establish itself as a credible alternative, the NDC must remain committed to the values of transparency, accountability and internal democracy that it has consistently promoted,” the group stated in a joint declaration.

The coalition argued that the current delay risks creating a damaging impression that the NDC is no different from the older political establishments it has previously criticized.

Consequently, the stakeholders have demanded that the NDC leadership urgently address both party members and the general public regarding the exact status of the primary election results.

Among the critical questions raised by the group were the precise logistical or administrative reasons behind the ten-day delay, the challenges preventing the immediate release of the numbers, the measures being implemented to preserve the absolute integrity of the ballots, and a definitive timeline for the official announcement.

The stakeholders maintained that timely, honest communication and uncompromised transparency are essential for sustaining public trust. They urged the party’s executive to either release the authentic, verified results immediately or provide a comprehensive, detailed explanation outlining when members should expect the final declarations.

“The future strength of the NDC depends not only on its electoral success but also on the confidence and trust of its members and supporters,” the group concluded. “The party must demonstrate through its actions that it remains committed to transparency, fairness, accountability and democratic integrity.”

At the time of reporting, the national secretariat of the Nigeria Democratic Congress has not issued a formal response to the stakeholders’ inquiries or established a firm date for the publication of the results.
