Commissioner’s son, others killed in bloody attack

It was a bloody Sunday night, in Tsafe town, the council headquarters of Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State, when armed bandits struck, killing many people including the son of the state’s commissioner for security affairs, Mamman Tsafe.

Though no official confirmation has been made by the commissioner or the State Government, residents said the gunmen who invaded the town went on a shooting spree immediately after the night prayer, killing about three people.

The incident, according to sources, occurred in the ‘Hayin Tumbi’ area, which is close to the commissioner’s residence, while many people were still in mosques observing their night prayers.

Africa Update gathered that many residents have fled the town after the incident. Sunday night’s attack is the latest in Zamfara, as gunmen have terrorised the state and neighbouring states since 2018.

Information available suggests that gunmen have killed thousands of people and kidnapped thousands of others in Zamfara and other North-west states including Kebbi, Sokoto, Kaduna and Niger.

These North West States have been engulfed in series of attacks despite repeated pledges by President Muhammadu Buhari to end the heavy deployment of security operatives to the areas.
