Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has dissolved the State Executive Council ahead of his inauguration for a second term in office, bringing the tenure of his cabinet members to an end after four years of service.
The governor announced the dissolution after a valedictory session with members of the outgoing cabinet at the Exco Chamber of the Governor’s Office in Ado-Ekiti.
The meeting, which featured hymns, praise songs and thanksgiving to God, provided an opportunity for the governor and his cabinet members to reflect on their experiences and contributions to the development of the state during the administration’s first term.
Oyebanji described the outgoing cabinet as a formidable team, commending its members for their commitment and contributions to the implementation of his administration’s policies and programmes.
He expressed gratitude to God for the wisdom and opportunity to serve the people of Ekiti State, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to making the state a better place for its residents.
The governor also thanked the cabinet members for their support, assuring them that the dissolution of the council would not bring an end to their relationship, as he intended to maintain contact with them.
However, Oyebanji clarified that the dissolution did not affect three key officials: the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Habibat Adubiaro; the Chief of Staff, Mr Oyeniyi Adebayo; and the Chief Press Secretary, Mr Olayinka Oyebode, who would retain their respective positions.
In their separate remarks, members of the outgoing council expressed appreciation to the governor for the opportunity to serve the state under his leadership. They also recounted their experiences in government during their time in office.
The valedictory session concluded with the cutting of a cake to mark the end of the cabinet’s tenure.
Oyebanji, who secured re-election in the June 20 governorship election, is scheduled to be sworn in for a second term on Friday, October 16, 2026.
His inauguration will begin another four-year tenure as governor, providing an opportunity for his administration to consolidate its policies and pursue its development agenda for Ekiti State.
