The Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, RT. Hon. Martin Amaewhule, has promised unwavering support to the Ministry of Youth Development.
The Speaker gave the assurance when the Commissioner for Youth Development, Hon. Chisom Kenneth Gbali, paid a courtesy visit to State House of Assembly.
Gbali, outlined the government’s plan to empower the Youths through various skill acquisition programs, including Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Solar Energy, Auto Mechanics, and other vocational skills.
In support of these initiatives, he presented an Act of the National Assembly, and expressed the desire to have the Act domesticated in the State, emphasizing its potential to positively impact the youth.
Gbali commended the Speaker, for his unwavering dedication to the realization of the New Rivers Vision. Stressing that the Speaker’s steadfastness has distinguished him as one of the key figures who fought tirelessly to bring about the vision for the state.
He highlighted the importance of Continuity and Consolidation in achieving sustainable development, citing the mantra of Sir Siminilayi Fubara. He emphasized that building upon existing achievements and programs is crucial for the progress of the state.
Furthermore, he informed the Speaker that plans were underway for the renovation of the ICT centre along Aba Road. This renovation project would ensure that the centre provides state-of-the-art facilities and training opportunities for the youth in the field of information and communication technology.
In his remarks, the Speaker, while welcoming the Commissioner to the Assembly Complex, expressed satisfaction with the ministry’s plans to improve the lives of the youth in Rivers State. He specifically highlighted the appointment of Hon. Chisom Kenneth Gbali as Commissioner, stating that the decision made by Governor Fubara, is a wise one.
He commended Hon. Gbali for starting his tenure on a positive note and acknowledged his dedication to youth development.
Furthermore, the Speaker assured the Commissioner and the Ministry of the full support of the 10th Rivers Assembly. He emphasized the assembly’s commitment to collaborating with the executive arm of government to ensure the successful implementation of youth-focused programs and initiatives.
The Speaker reiterated that the assembly would work hand in hand with the Ministry to create an enabling environment for the Youths to thrive and contribute to the overall development of the State.
The Speaker assured that the House will look into the document (Act of the National Assembly) presented by the Commissioner.
“With this visit, it is evident that the Rivers State government is committed to addressing the challenges faced by its youth population and is actively working towards equipping them with the necessary skills to succeed in various sectors. The proposed training programs in ICT, Solar Energy, Auto Mechanics, and other fields hold the potential to empower the youth and create a brighter future for Rivers State,” he stressed.
