Hundreds of dispersed immigration recruits along with some of their aged parents besieged the Ministry of Interior yesterday to demand the immediate recall of 2,000 recruits.
A statement signed by Rex Elenu and six others , which was read during the protest, urged the Federal Government to direct the issuance of appointment letters to the 400 Assistant Superintendents of Immigration II (ASI2); pay corresponding emoluments , integrate the 2,000 recruits into the service of NIS and also direct the immediate recall of the 2,000 dispersed recruits to their duty posts;
The protesters further accused the Federal Government of recently recruiting over 1,000 personnel into the NIS under the guise of replacement, alleging that candidates of politicians were increasingly admitted into the training camps.
The Comptroller General of Immigration, Muhammad Babandede, while addressing the crowd, assured them of the intervention of the Federal Government, despite inheriting the challenge from the Jonathan led government, which he said did not have the powers to conduct any recruitment into the NIS.
One of their placards read: “War against corruption is blind and deaf until it hears and sees #NIS2000. We are simply victims of politics and nepotism. 298 days of uncertainty. May your children go through what you have put us through.”
