As the Federal Executive Council approved the memorandum presented by the Honorable Minister of Environment, Dr. Abdullahi H. Mohammend for the construction of Centre of Excellence for Environmental Restoration (CEER) and a hundred (100) bed specialist hospital Hospital on Ogoni soil, the apex youth body in Ogoniland, the Ogoni Youth Federation (OYF) has commended the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, the Honourable Minister of Environment and the HYPREP Project Coordinator for steps taken to ensure the success of the Ogoni Ogoni cleanup and to better the lot of Ogoni people.
While addressing news men at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, the President-General of Ogoni Youth Federation (OYF) Chief Comrade Legborsi Yamaabana said the presidential action is a welcome development and a pointer to the fact that the Federal Government is committed to the success of the clean-up project.
The Ogoni youth boss and Mene Legbo Zuguru of Ogoniland, Legborsi Yamaabana said he is not surprised as the Honorable Minister of Environment has demonstrated avowed commitment to the clean-up of Ogoni since his inception as the supervising minister for the clean-up project. He described him as a friend of Ogoni and a true Nigerian patriot.
“The Centre of excellence for Environmental Restoration when complemented, would provide training, create employment opportunities and enhance the capacity and the skills of Ogoni youths, and it would become a model for environmental restoration and attract international attention, while the importance of the specialist hospital can not be overemphasized”. Yamaabana stressed.
Whilst advising HYPREP and the contractors that will handle the projects to ensure youth and stakeholders participation as well as execution of Corporate Social Responsibilities, Yamaabana urged Ogoni people to downplay on litigation and differences, and rally support to HYPREP to ensure expeditious execution of these projects.
