Attempted murder charge: Hon Chidi llyod to know fate in September

A court of Appeal in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital has fixed September 26, 2016 to hear an appeal by the former leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly,  Hon. Chidi llyod,  challenging his re-trial by the State government over an attempted murder charge.

Lloyd had gone to the court to challenge the decision of the Attorney General of the State Mr. Emmanuel Aguma to reopen the attempted murder and assault of a member of the House of Representatives,  Hon. Michael Okechukwu Chinda,  during a fracas at the Assembly complex on July 13, 2013.

The Attorney General reopened the attempted murder charge at the court presided over by the  Chief Judge of the State, Justice Lamikaran Iyaye. The matter which was withdrawn by the former Attorney General during Chibuike Amaechi’s administration, Mr Worgu Boms was presented before the court seeking the review of the case.

Justice Iyaye had consequently,  issued a warrant order to the police to produce Hon. Lloyd to face his trial.

Hon. Llyod is asking the court to set aside the reopening of the attempted murder case as ordered by the Chief Judge.
