Fawaz Al-Hasawi, the former owner of Nottingham Forest Football Club, is recovering after being attacked by masked intruders in his luxury residence in Mayfair. The 57-year-old Kuwaiti businessman was reportedly confronted earlier this month in a raid that has left the London elite-housing district on high alert.
According to reports first published by The Sun, Mr Al-Hasawi was sleeping in his £10million property when the assailants gained entry to his bedroom. A violent struggle ensued, during which the former club chairman sustained stab wounds to his neck and hands.
Images have since circulated on social media depicting Al-Hasawi with significant bandaging on his hands, sparking concern amongst his former associates in the footballing world.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed they were called to the scene to attend to the victim. A spokesperson for the force stated that while the injuries were distressing, they are fortunately classified as neither life-threatening nor life-changing. It remains unclear at this stage of the investigation whether the robbers successfully absconded with any valuables from the high-security estate.
Mr Al-Hasawi is well-known to English football supporters, having held the reins at Nottingham Forest between 2012 and 2017. His tenure was marked by a turbulent period in the Championship, during which the club famously cycled through nine managers in just five years.
He eventually sold the club to the current owner, Evangelos Marinakis, in 2017. Under the subsequent Greek leadership, Forest secured their long-awaited return to the Premier League in 2022 and achieved a remarkable seventh-place finish last term, qualifying for European competition.
The news of the attack comes at a particularly sombre time for his former club. Following their European success, Forest have endured a punishing 2025-26 campaign. The team currently languishes in 17th place in the Premier League table, narrowly hovering above the relegation zone.
The instability of the Al-Hasawi era appears to have found a contemporary echo; on Sunday, the club appointed former Wolves manager Vitor Pereira as their fourth head coach of the current season, following the departure of Sean Dyche.
The Metropolitan Police have indicated that forensic enquiries at the Mayfair property are continuing. No arrests have been made thus far, and investigators are appealing to the public for any information regarding masked individuals seen in the vicinity of the robbery.
