Governorship candidate of the Action Alliance, AA, in Rivers State, Dr. Dawari Ibietela George, has decried the absence of industries and key government institutions in the Kalabari area of the state, a sad situation he attributed to lack of land space.
Dr. George, who spoke in Buguma, headquarters of Asari-Toru local government, on Friday, while on his Governorship Road Show in the area, said that the absence of land space across the three Kalabari councils had denied the area what naturally belonged to them in the distribution and establishment of employment-yielding factories and related employment opportunities. He, however, promised to end the sad reality through massive land reclamation in the three Kalabari councils of Asari-Toru, Akuku-Toru, and Degema. “When, through the grace of God and the support of Rivers people, we are elected into Office of Governor, we shall embark on massive land reclamation across the Kalabari local government areas. By so doing we shall create opportunities for industries and allied services to thrive in the area. That would create employment for our people and cure restiveness and insecurity.”
The AA governorship candidate emphasised the need for a ring road that would link every community and hinterland in the area, saying that with the beauty of the flora and fauna of the area, Kalabari area would become the toast of the creative industry. “A Ring Road linking Kalabari communities, would create big opportunities for the Creative Industry to tap into the area’s flora and fauna. The mangroves offer the Entertainment Industry a rich space to thrive. Our Administration shall pursue that for the good of Kalabari and other areas of the state”, the gubernatorial candidate pledged.
While declaring that his ambition was upon personal conviction that it was time to liberate Rivers State from its current state of bitter politics and lack of development, the Action Alliance governorship candidate stated that the emergence of other governorship candidates of Kalabari stock was a proof that the area has competent and qualified natives to rule the state. “The emergence of many governorship candidates of Kalabari descent should not be seen as a negative development, rather, it shows that Kalabari has qualified people with the capacity to govern Rivers State.”
On his further plans for the area, if elected governor Dr. George, who was received at the PoloDabo Da Ojuka Group of Houses Hall, by Alabo Amakiri Flagg Amachree, promised to initiate a reconciliation process that would restore unity among communities in the area. He also pledged to run a transparent and all-inclusive Administration if elected governor on March 11, 2023, in which every local government area shall become a Development Centre. Dr. Dawari George explained that under such arrangement, each of the twenty-three councils shall have equal projects executed.
While welcoming Dr. Dawari George to the Da Ojuka Community Hall, Alabo Amakiri Flagg Amachree, expressed delight that their “son” was in the governorship race of Rivers State. He pledged the support of the Group of Houses for Dr. Dawari George’s ambition and wished him success.
Dr. Dawari George had earlier made a Courtesy Visit to the Prince George Ama Community where he was received with 7-gun salute.
Speaking at the venue, His Royal Highness, Alabo Hon. Datonye Igbanibo Igonikon George, handed over a Bible to Dr. Dawari George with prayers for his success at the polls.
