NASELS mourns UNIPORT lecturer who died of COVID-19

Students have urged residents of Rivers State to observe all preventive measures against the dreaded coronavirus, especially as it continues to kill individuals all over the world.

This call was contained in a statement signed by the National President, of National Association of English and Literary Studies, NASELS, Comr. Okoli Obioma T, who broke the news of the death of the current Head of the Department of English Studies, at the University of Port Harcourt, and an Associate Professor, Nneka Omera-Okeke.

According to information made available to Africa Update, Prof. Omera-Okeke died on May 21, 2020.

Excerpts of the statement read: NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF STUDENTS OF ENGLISH AND LITERARY STUDIES (NASELS) NIGERIA

“With deep sadness in my heart, I wish to announce the death of our dear friend and colleague, a woman of great administrative acumen, the current Head, Department of English Studies, University of Port Harcourt, an Associate Professor, Nneka Omera-Okeke. She died this evening of the dreaded COVID-19″…

Those were the words of the VC. He broke the sad news of her passage to me the moment he was informed. She meant a lot to NASELS. She was one of our strong pillars during SOUTHCOSELS. F

Friends and colleagues, let us all take out time to pray for her soul to rest in peace and pray also that the Lord give everyone around her the heart to bear the lost.

To all her students, please accept our condolences. Please dear friends colleagues, Corona Virus is real and deadly.
