There was a twist in the political scene in Ondo State, as activities for the Governorship election, scheduled for this weekend, experienced a major shakeup. The news broke today, that 10 out of the participating 17 political parties have withdrawn from the governorship race, to support Eyitayo Jegede who is the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
The parties are Accord Party, Action Alliance, Action Democratic Party, APGA, AAC, APM, APP, NNPP, NRM, and SDP. Speaking on behalf of the political parties at the PDP secretariat in Akure, the Ondo State capital, the Chairman of Social Democratic Party, Prince Oladele Ogunbameru said the decision was made at a meeting held on October 4, 2020 with the party leaders and chieftains of the PDP.
According to the SDP Chairman, the move was borne out of their commitment to good governance in the state, which they believe can only be offered by the PDP.
