A native of Akpekpe in Auchi Local Government Area in Edo State, identified as Usman Abdul Lateef, who was declared missing since Wednesday, May 13, has been found.
Lateef was allegedly murdered by his cousin Koma, and buried in a bush.
The deceased, according to sources, was said to have left home on Wednesday with his cousin simply identified as Koma to the Guaranty Trust Bank’s Automated Teller Machine for a transaction but never returned.
Koma was however arrested by the police for investigation as he was the last person Lateef interacted with on the day he went missing.
The police however released Koma after questioning, while search by the Azomode Age Grade members and investigation by Policemen attached to the Auchi Divisional Headquarters continued.
Lateef’s family had contacted the Auchi branch of GTBank to notify his account manager about the development.
This move paid off, as the bank contacted the family of the deceased, when they noticed an attempt to make a withdrawal on Lateef’s account on Tuesday, May 19, while the transaction was ongoing at the GTB branch at Auchi.
This led to the arrest of Koma who confessed to killing his cousin over a 2million Naira Land deal.
He said he had buried Lateef in a bush at Igarra road with the intent to withdraw the cash since he already had the ATM card and pin.
The body has been recovered by a joint effort of the Police and Auchi Vigilante Squad led by Koma and has been buried at 7:10pm according to Islamic rites.
