Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Rivers State, Sir Richard Eyina Victor, has paid a courtesy visit to the traditional ruler of Ataba Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Ambassador (Dr) B.M.H. Egwenre Oruk XVII Okanama, in Andoni Local Government Area of the state.
Sir Richard was received by the monarch at his palace in Ataba following a colourful cultural procession that ushered the governorship candidate into the kingdom.
During the visit, Sir Richard formally presented his candidature to the traditional ruler and expressed his appreciation to the monarch for making time to receive him.
He assured the royal father of his commitment to serving the people and pledged that, if given the opportunity to lead the state, he would not disappoint the people of Rivers State.
In his response, HRM Ambassador (Dr) B.M.H. Egwenre Oruk XVII Okanama advised the PDP governorship candidate to remain steadfast in the pursuit of truth, righteousness and service to humanity.
The monarch also urged Sir Richard to remain committed to God, stressing that divine guidance and grace were essential for anyone entrusted with leadership responsibilities.
He encouraged the candidate to continue to seek God’s direction, noting that God rewards those who diligently seek Him and remains the ultimate source of power, wisdom and grace.
Following the royal visit, Sir Richard joined friends, associates and members of the Igoh family of Ataba Kingdom to honour the family’s matriarch at her funeral service.
The funeral service was held at St James Anglican Church, Ataba, where Sir Richard paid his respects to the deceased and commiserated with the bereaved family.
Speaking on the significance of his attendance, Sir Richard emphasised the importance of standing with families during periods of grief and showing respect for those who have passed on.
He noted that leadership was not only about political responsibilities but also about identifying with the people, sharing in their moments of joy and sorrow, and demonstrating compassion and humanity.
The visit to Ataba Kingdom formed part of Sir Richard’s continued engagements with traditional institutions, communities, families and stakeholders across Rivers State as he seeks support for his governorship bid.
