Rivers 2027: Wike’s kinsmen endorse Governor Fubara for second term

In the high-stakes theatre of Rivers State politics, the winds of change appear to be blowing firmly in favour of the incumbent. On Tuesday, the political landscape shifted palpably as Governor Siminalayi Fubara secured a resounding and symbolic endorsement for his 2027 ambitions from the very heart of his predecessor’s stronghold. In a public display of loyalty that resonates far beyond local boundaries, the leaders and residents of Eneka formally cast their lot with the Governor, marking a pivotal moment in the state’s ongoing leadership narrative.

The endorsement was the centrepiece of the 2025 Eneka Day Celebration, held at State Primary School One in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area. Under the theme “Unity: Our Strength for Progress,” the gathering served as a stage for the community to declare that political authority in Rivers State rests squarely with the sitting Governor.

The event, which drew a vast assembly of traditional rulers, youth representatives, and women’s associations from the eleven constituent communities of the Eneka clan, culminated in a formal vote of confidence. Speaking on behalf of the clan, Mr Lawson Chukwu, Chairman of the Eneka Community Development Committee, articulated the people’s resolve.

“The people of Eneka remain steadfast in their support of Governor Fubara,” Mr Chukwu remarked, commending the administration for its tangible developmental strides while advocating for further infrastructure investment. Specifically, he highlighted the deteriorating state of internal roads, noting that their restoration is vital for the local economy. Furthermore, he petitioned the Governor for the elevation of the Eneka traditional stool from second-class to first-class status, a gesture he described as essential for the community’s cultural prestige.

The sentiment was echoed by Senator John Azuta-Mbata, the political leader of the Eneka clan and President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide. In a firm address, Senator Azuta-Mbata underscored that the clan recognises only one Governor. He assured the incumbent that the bond between the Eneka people and his administration remains “stable and unwavering.”

Governor Fubara, evidently heartened by the reception, expressed his gratitude for the community’s unity. He noted that such communal harmony is the bedrock of effective governance. Addressing the specific grievances raised, the Governor acknowledged the damage caused to local roads by heavy-duty machinery during recent flyover projects.

“I promise you significant and reasonable intervention to improve road access within your clan and enhance your quality of life,” the Governor stated.

In an immediate response to the community’s cultural aspirations, Governor Fubara instructed the Commissioner for Chieftaincy and Community Affairs to initiate the formal process for the upgrade of the Eneka traditional stool. He concluded by reiterating that peace remains the essential precursor to sustainable development, stating, “A peaceful and united community makes it easier for the government to deliver meaningful development without internal conflict.”

As the 2027 general elections approach, this endorsement from a traditional stronghold suggests a broadening of Governor Fubara’s coalition and a consolidation of executive influence across the state.
