Cultists invade police station, release members

About 15 cultists have reportedly escaped from police custody in  Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State after armed youths, numbering about 100 suspected to be cult members, raided the Eku Police Station, armed with guns, cutlasses, axes, broken bottles, and other weapons.

The youths who were dressed in black  allegedly belonged to different cult groups, including Eiye and Vikings. They were said to have been terrorising residents since 2016.

Police men had reportedly ran for their lives as the attack was said to have taken them by surprise. The hoodlums, had stormed the station around 9.30pm last Sunday, April 15,  after blocking all access roads to prevent movement in and outside the community before  invading the station to free their members who were allegedly arrested by the police at a checkpoint.

Several property were destroyed and many allegedly injured during the three-hour raid.
