The Federal Government has disbursed $360 million to clean up the polluted Ogoni land in Rivers State.
The Coordinator of the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project, Prof Nenibarini Zabbey, disclosed this recently during a four-day tour of the remediated project sites in Ogoni local governments in the State.
He stated that efforts to restore the livelihoods of the people of Ogoni land ravaged by oil spills have started yielding results.
“We are also mandated to restore the livelihoods of the people. I know that the board of trustees has released about $360,000,000. We have not exhausted that amount. We are still paying the contractors”, he stated.
