Abuja, FCT – Former Rivers State Governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has publicly accused his predecessor, Rotimi Amaechi, of fabricating statements during Amaechi’s recent 60th birthday celebration. Wike’s comments, made at a media parley in Abuja, specifically targeted Amaechi’s remarks regarding “hunger” and his expressed willingness to join a coalition led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
Minister Wike asserted that Amaechi’s emphasis on “hunger” indicated a deeper yearning for political power. He criticized the timing of Amaechi’s statements, made during a milestone birthday celebration. “I don’t know why a man would choose his 60th birthday to tell lies. It’s unfortunate. Of all times, on your 60th birthday, when people are celebrating you?” Wike questioned.
Wike further highlighted Amaechi’s extensive political career, spanning over two decades in prominent roles within Rivers State and the federal government, suggesting a contradiction in his current assertions about economic hardship.
“He was (Rivers State) Speaker from 1999 to 2007. He was the most pampered speaker. He became a governor from 2007 to 2015. Eight years as Rivers State House of Assembly Speaker, and eight years as governor, he never talked about hunger,” Wike stated. He continued, “He became a minister from 2015 to 2023, eight years as a super minister of transport. When he was borrowing money (for projects), he didn’t talk about hunger.”
