As part of efforts aimed at providing world class aviation service to commuters, the Federal Government has concluded plans to concession Port Harcourt, Abuja, Kano and Lagos international airports in the first phase of the concession plan.
Speaking at the 2016 Aviation Stakeholders Forum on Monday in Abuja, Minister of State, Aviation, Sen. Hadi Sirika, said the Federal Government concession plan, would attract investors to Nigeria that will create a hud which will boost the economy and create jobs.
Reiterating that if the federal government is able to successfully concession the four major airports in the first phase, it will pay attention to providing infrastructure and develope domestic airports for optimal performance.
The Minister disclosed that the government was also concerned about the state of the runway at the Abuja airport, stating that to avert any disaster, government might consider closing down the airport.
The minister also stated that a comprehensive security check and vulnerability assessment of the airports had been carried out to ensure that airports were properly secured.
