Wike, Amaechi, others hold peace meeting

A peace meeting between political gladiators in Rivers State held yesterday in Abuja, as part of efforts to restore calm ahead of the planned rerun election in some local government area.

The meeting was held at the instance of the Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Musa Daura, with the Acting Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris in attendance.

The Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, the former Governor of the state and Minister of Transport, Chief Chibuike Amaechi and other stakeholders were brought together for the purpose of resolving the tense political atmosphere in the state.

Our source revealed that stakeholders agreed to a truce and vowed to play by the rules of politics and election for the conduct of peaceful, free and fair election in the state.

Wike and Amaechi agreed to call another meeting in Port Harcourt with the aim of solidifying the commitment reached at the peace meeting as a prelude to road map that will usher in permanent peace in the state.

It was resolved that the rerun election scheduled for July 30, would be postponed to a later date.

The Director General of NIMASA , Dakuku Peterside and the APC candidate for Rivers South East Senatorial District, Senator Magnus Abe, were also at the meeting.
