Tragedy Strikes Auchi: Young Man Dies During Alleged Cult Initiation

AUCHI, EDO STATE – A dark cloud of tragedy has descended upon Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State, following the alleged death of a young man identified simply as Prosper during a cult initiation ceremony over the weekend. The victim reportedly succumbed to repeated “drilling” during the brutal initiation process.

Allegations Surround Cult Membership and Initiation

Sources close to the incident revealed that Prosper had allegedly approached a family member, identified as Cosmos, expressing his desire to join the Aye confraternity group. Cosmos, reportedly a senior member of the cult, is said to have facilitated Prosper’s connection with other members who then took him to the initiation venue. Cosmos himself was allegedly not present at the ceremony.

Tragedy, however, struck as Prosper allegedly died during the initiation. It was further gathered that Cosmos claimed he was later informed that the deceased fainted due to a hard drug he allegedly took prior to the initiation.

Police Confirm Incident, Suspect Arrested

The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the incident. The Command’s image maker, Moses Yamu, informed newsmen in Benin City that the deceased slumped during the initiation and was rushed to a hospital in Jattu, where he was unfortunately confirmed dead.

Yamu stated that a suspect has been arrested in connection with the incident and is currently in police custody, with investigations ongoing.

This tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the dangers associated with cultism and illicit activities. Authorities continue to urge parents, guardians, and community leaders to remain vigilant and educate young people about the perils of cult involvement.
