The Egyptian Health Ministry and prosecutors are investigating the death of Seventeen-year-old Mayar Mohamed Mousa,  who died at  El Canal hospital on Sunday, while under full anaesthesia in the province of Suez for female circumcision operation.
The  health ministry undersecretary in the province, Lotfi  Abdel-Samee, said on Monday that the law has prohibited the circumcision of women.
It was gathered that Mousa’s sister had just undergone a similar operation on Sunday,  before the circumcision . Despite the ban on female genital mutilation (FGM) in 2008,  it is still practiced by Muslims and minority Christians , especially in rural communities  in Egypt,Â
Following the ban, a doctor was jailed in January last year, and the victim’s father in that case, was given a three-month suspended sentence.
