A cross section of parents, who spoke with Africa Update, have raised alarm over the poor state of public schools in Rivers State.
Most parents who were visibly worried as their wards prepare to return back to school for the new academic year, expressed fears about the safety of their children.
They disclosed that most schools have been taken over by grasses and snakes, and were dismayed at the situation which could result in the death of innocent children if drastic action is not taken by the Nyesom Wike led government.
Our sources, said snakes freely roamed the vicinity of most modern schools, as a result of over grown grasses.
Africa Update gathered that over 200 model schools which were constructed and furnished during the Current Minister of Transportation and former Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi’s administration, had lost its glory due to the sack of the contractors in charge of the maintenance of these schools.
Further investigation revealed that these contractors were sent parking by the Wike led administration and no replacement or alternative arrangements were reportedly made to ensure the safety of these helpless children who attend these public schools across the 23 local government areas.
A parent who spoke on condition of anonymity said her child escaped death , last academic year, when the child was allegedly bitten by a snake at an undisclosed school.
