A copy of the speech by Obuah, reads: An Address Delivered By The Director General of the Consolidation of the New Rivers Vision Campaign Council, Bro Felix Obuah on the occasion of his maiden Press Conference
Gentlemen of the Press,
Let me, on behalf of members of the Campaign Council welcome all of you, particularly members of the Fourth Estate of the Realm, to this press briefing.
Gentlemen of the Press, It is our first encounter with you in this manner since we came on board. It is evidence of the high esteem which we have for the Fourth Estate of the Realm; and proof of our resolve to engage critical stakeholders.
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, is aware of the critical role that the mass media plays in the transmission of cultural values, knowledge, the flow of vital information, and the promotion of public enlightenment and education.
We acknowledge and appreciate the support that you have constantly extended to the Rivers PDP. You have proved to be partners in progress.
We want to place on record, our sincere appreciation of the growing commitment of the mass media to the promotion of popular understanding, and the protection of the peace and stability in Rivers State.
Gentlemen, this press briefing has been provoked by a strong resolve on our part to provide the press with a clear insight as we prepare for the official take off of our campaign.
The high point of the rally which is billed to take place at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium would be the grand unveiling of the PDP’s gubernatorial flagbearer, Sir Siminalayi Fubara.
The unveiling ceremony will be performed by the G5 Governors who are at the centre of a fight designed to promote inclusiveness.
While in Port Harcourt, the State Governor who is the Chief Host will treat our friends, elders and leaders to a State Banquet. The banquet will be held on Friday, 18th November, 2022.
Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, the host Governor and leader of the G5, Governor Nyesom Wike will grace the occasion.
We applaud the G5 for remaining the soul and conscience of the PDP. They have earned the respect of Nigerians by staying on in the PDP. Their decision to pursue peaceful options despite obstacles placed on the way has further endeared them to the Nigerian people.
We are happy that these great patriots who believe in one Nigeria will participate in activities marking the flag off of our campaign effort in Rivers State.
As the clock ticks and public attention turns in the direction of Rivers State, we want to inform you that we are ready. We are ready to fight the good fight, our sleeves rolled up, and our hands on the plough.
We are ready, as a political party, to win the 2023 gubernatorial elections. We are also ready to sweep the National Assembly and the State House of Assembly elections.
We are prepared, through the special grace of God, to build astutely on a legacy of hard work, strong leadership and rapid transformation established by the Wike administration.
We are prepared, with the support of the good people of Rivers State who continue to back the PDP and our dynamic leader, Governor Nyesom Wike, to ask for a fresh mandate of four years.
We believe that the fresh mandate shall strengthen a shared vision of great prosperity and progress. And ensure the consolidation of the new Rivers vision which has given birth to an evolving era of great enduring works, great transformation and resounding achievements.
We do have a resilient political party that is focused and determined. We have an exceptional Government that has raised the bar of performance. Our government ably led by Governor Wike has delivered, and continues to deliver, on its promises to the people.
The wellbeing of the people and the transformation of their environment matter to them. In every democracy, the people are the ultimate deciders.
As a person, I am glad that the PDP has never taken the support of the Rivers people for granted. Power truly belongs to the people, and we acknowledge the love that our people have shown to our great party over the years.
As we prepare to step into the ring, we urge the people to rally support for their own party. The Rivers people are major stakeholders in the Peoples Democratic Party.
Wisely, they have freely and caringly given us the mandate to form government in this State. Today, as we go forward, we ask them for a renewal of the mandate.
Right from 1999, we have had our eyes intensely on the ball. Looking back, we are proud to say that our resolve to fulfil our part of the social contract has remained unshaken.
Rivers people can attest to the fact that we are vigorously delivering dividends of democracy at an astounding pace.
Accordingly, the Nigerian people as well as the Federal Government have responsibly acknowledged the exploits of the Wike administration.
What this means is that the PDP has the requisite experience, the knowledge of the terrain and the capacity to deliver on its promises.
Rivers people must therefore resist people who are lying and trying to deceive them. They neither have the capacity to deliver in office as elected persons nor the capability and expertise to take our dear state to newer heights.
The business of managing the State is too serious to be left to the uninitiated. We cannot allow people who want to turn our State into a laboratory for experiments to take control of the reins of power.
While we look forward to our victory at the polls in 2023, we extend our hand of fellowship to the press. Our doors would be open to you at all times. At all times be free to ask questions.
Thank you so much.
