The Presidency says it recognises Victor Giadom as the Acting National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress APC. Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, who made the Presidency’s position known via his verified twitter handle on Wednesday, said the government is following the position of the law.

He said: “In response to an enquiry by some State House Correspondents, the President has received very convincing advice on the position of the law as far as the situation in the party is concerned and has determined that the law is on the side of Victor Giadom as Acting National Chairman.”

Shehu said based on the recognition, President Buhari will attend Thursday’s virtual meeting of the National Executive Committee of the party summoned by the Acting National Chairman. “Because we will always act in accordance with the law, the President will be attending the virtual meeting Giadom called for tomorrow afternoon,” Shehu added.

The Presidential aide advised the media to desist from interpretative or sensational reports on the APC crisis. “We urge the media to stop promoting manufactured controversies and to not give any further room for mischievous interpretations of the law on this matter,” he said.

He said in addition to the President, the Giadom meeting will, hopefully, be attended by our Governors and the leaders of the National Assembly. The governing party has been involved in a leadership crisis for some time now, following the suspension of the National Chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole but Thursday’s NEC meeting is expected to be a major step towards resolving the impasse.
