Coordinator of the Joint Media Campaign Centre of Operation Delta Safe (ODS),Major Abubakar Abdullahi, has confirmed that Two soldiers were killed and three injured during a gunbattle with suspected sea pirates in Ijawkiri, a border town between Bayelsa and Rivers States.
Major Abdullahi, revealed to newsmen on Wednesday that the gun duel with sea pirates occurred during a deployment of troops at Creek 6 Houseboat in Cawthorne Channel while responding to a distress call of an attack around Ijawkiri.
“Unfortunately, two gallant soldiers exhibited the highest point of patriotism by paying the supreme price while three others sustained gunshot injuries, the effort is ongoing by the JTF to track and apprehend the criminals.”
Stating further that in continuation of its drive to accomplish its mandate, ODS troops on patrol around Iyalama Adama axis of Rivers State, on Wednesday discovered and destroyed 13 illegal refineries , no arrests were made during the raid.
