Rivers State Government Assures Corps Members Of Security

Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, has assured corps members serving in the state of their security and protection.

The governor who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Bureau, Office of Secretary to State Government, Sir Chidi Adiele at the official swearing in ceremony of the National Youth Service Corps(NYSC), 2018 batch B, stream 2 corps members at Nonwa-Gbam, Tai Local Government Area, during his speech, described the state as the safest in the country, and that the establishment of the neighbourhood safety agency was a statement of the government’s commitment to the safety and security of law abiding residents of the state and promised that his administration would do everything within its power to ensure that the security of lives and properties of corps members are guaranteed throughout their service year in the state.

The state governor, called on corps members to shun cultism, religious intolerance, political violence, and all forms of anti-social behaviours and urged them not to allow disgruntled and unpatriotic individuals to use them for selfish and destructive purposes.

The Rivers state Coordinator of NYSC, Mr. Chinendu Chukwu,in his opening remark thanked the state government for prioritizing the welfare of corps members and said that the service has sensitized their host communities towards understanding and embracing government programmes.

He also said the National Youth Service Corps(NYSC) scheme has helped in the continuous fight against HIV/AIDS scourge, provision legal services to the less privileged, sensitization of the public on fundamental human right and enhanced the educational standards of the rural communities, among other needful services.
