The Rivers State House of Assembly has expressed displeasure with the management of the Rivers State University (RIVSU) for failing for appear before the state assembly.
The management of the Rivers State University failed to appear before the joint committee on Public Accounts and Finance.
Briefing newsmen at the end of the audit exercise of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), chairman jointed committee on Public Account and Finance, Hon. Major Jack reprimanded the institution and gave them another chance to appear before the committee or face sanctions.
Hon. Jack said, “Section 125 – 129 gives us the mandate and the authority to invite these institutions. Rivers State University, they sent in their documents without appearance. We are believing that they are asking us to look into the document very well before we invite them properly”.
He went on to thank the institutions who were present. Stating that their presence is an indication that they have confidence in the joint committee and vice versa.
He added that some of the institutions met the requirements, while some will have to come back to back up their explanations.
On his part, Chairman, House Committee on Finance, Hon. Edison Ehie while commending agencies that turned up for the exercise, expressed satisfaction with the exercise and lauded the Rivers State Government for prompt release of funds to the MDAs.
Three committees appeared before the joint committee, they include, the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, The Judicial Service Commission and the Rivers State Civil Service Commission.
