Argentina eyes World Cup hosting bid

Argentina, has in recent times performed creditably, and reached the World Cup semifinals at two of the last three Rugby tournaments. With this achievement , Argentina will make an official bid in October to stage the 2027 Rugby World Cup, when organisers visit the South American country.
Thw government made the disclosure on Monday, after President Mauricio Macri held a meeting with new World Rugby vice-chairman and former Pumas captain Agustin Pichot.
Japan is hosting the 2019 World Cup while four countries have submitted bids to stage the tournament in 2023, France, South Africa, Italy and Ireland.
The hosts will be decided in May 2017.
Pichot, who since leading the Pumas to third place at the 2007 World Cup in France has been instrumental to Argentina’s greater international competition, was elected 12 days ago as No 2 to new World Rugby chairman Bill Beaumont.
Macri, who has been in office for six months, is a former president of top Argentine soccer club Boca Juniors.
