The Rivers State council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists has stated that it will no longer allow any press briefing or conference to take place outside the Ernest Ikoli press center at Moscow road, Port Harcourt.
The NUJ in a statement signed by its secretary, Ike Wigodo, says any press conference or briefing held outside the NUJ press center is illegal and warned members of the union against honoring such invitation.
The union noted that some corporate firms, associations, political parties and their chieftains in Rivers state are in the habit of holding their press conferences and briefing outside the NUJ press center, thereby depriving the union of its right and privileges.
The union warned that it will not hesitate to disrupt any illegal press briefing or conference taking place outside the press center, while also sanctioning any journalist that attends such event.
According to the statement, court sessions are not held outside the courtrooms and also, press conference and briefings should not hold outside press centers.
