Two suspected criminals are now feared dead, while four others escaped with gunshot injuries, after they engaged officers of 2 Brigade Command, Nigeria Army in a gun battle in Afam, Oyigbo Local Government Area, Rivers State.
Spokesman of the Command, Captain Eli Lazurus, told newsmen in Port Harcourt that the troupes ran into the criminals while on routine patrol. Three AK 47 riffles were recovered during the operation.
He further hinted that three kidnap victims were rescued at Ubima. ‘Also in a similar incident, our troupes deployed at Ubima rescued two young men and a lady, that were abducted by suspected kidnappers between Ubima and Isiokpo Communities, in Ikwerre Local Government Area, as soon as that incident was reported, our men swiftly responded and engaged the fleeing abductors, who later abandoned their victims and ran into the bush”.
