The event, held at the main campus Auditorium in Rumuolumeni, served as a high-profile celebration of Professor Lale’s illustrious academic career and his significant contributions to the Nigerian tertiary education sector.

The proceedings commenced with a scholarly public lecture, which drew together members of the academia, former colleagues, and high-ranking university officials. The lecture underscored Professor Lale’s enduring legacy as a researcher and administrator, reflecting on the advancements made under his stewardship during his tenure at the University of Port Harcourt.

In a move to further immortalise the celebrant’s academic contributions, the ceremony featured the formal presentation of two books. In his address, the host, Professor Okey Onuchuku, commended Professor Lale for his professional integrity and his role as a mentor within the academic community. He noted that the reception was not merely a farewell, but a recognition of a lifetime of dedication to excellence in education.

Following the intellectual segment of the afternoon, the atmosphere shifted to one of convivial celebration. Guests were treated to a formal luncheon, a “dine and wine” session where colleagues and associates shared personal anecdotes and tributes, celebrating the transition of the 8th Vice-Chancellor of UniPort into a well-deserved retirement.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks, marking the end of a momentous chapter for Professor Lale and reaffirming the strong bonds of fellowship between the sister institutions of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education and the University of Port Harcourt.
