No fewer than 10 persons are feared dead and scores trapped following the collapse of a landing jetty in Isaka Community at Okirika Local Government Area in Rivers State.
A source told Africa Update that the incident occured between 3pm and 4pm on Saturday September 2, as commuters besieged the jetty in a bid to return to Port Harcourt, after attending a funeral ceremony.
Local divers attempted to rescue the victims but there were fears that many of those who fell into the River were already dead.
