Amnesty International has warned that execution rates in Saudi Arabia may be higher this year than the previous year ( which recorded 158 death sentences), at the current statistics of more than 100 executions in the first half of 2016, making it the third most prolific executioner after Pakistan and  Iran , excluding china.

The outcry of Amnesty ,  was necessitated by the execution of a Nigerian, Fahd Houssawi on Sunday,  by Saudi authorities in the western city of Taif,  when he was convicted for the murder of a policeman.

Houssawi had been found guilty of allegedly  strangling the policeman and beating his head against the ground until he died.
