A man escaped death by the whiskers when a truck fell on his SUV along NTA/ Mgbouba Road, before larritel Hotel, in Rivers State on December 7. Sources at the scene of the accident told Africa Update that the truck conveying cartons of sachet tomatoes had developed some fault on that fateful day.
They said the owner of the goods had made arrangements to transfer the tomotoes to another truck and some men were on ground to carry-out the directive, when the RAV4 SUV got to the point where the truck was.
It was gathered that the men who were transferring the goods had asked the owner of the RAV4 SUV to stop to enable them continue with their task, but all attempt to stop the man fell on deaf ears and the container reportedly fell on his vehicle as they tried to place it on another truck.
It took several hours before onlookers and the men who had earlier asked him to stop could rescue him from the crushed SUV. Though he was unconscious when he was rescued several hours later, he miraculously escaped death.
He reportedly regained consciousness and was later taken to the hospital for routine checkup, with no external injuries. The tomotoes were however not so lucky, as residents pounced on the goods carting away as much of the tomatoes as they could.
