The Majority Leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Major Jack, has emerged as the running mate to the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Kingsley Ogundu Chinda, ahead of the 2027 Rivers State governorship election.
Jack, who represents Akuku-Toru Constituency I in the State House of Assembly, was selected on Monday by the Rivers State chapter of the APC following extensive consultations among party stakeholders, leaders and members of the Rainbow Coalition.
The development was confirmed on Tuesday by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Ikenga Chibike.
According to the APC, Jack’s selection was informed largely by the need to achieve geographical balance on the party’s ticket and strengthen its grassroots support, particularly across the riverine communities of the state.
In a statement announcing his emergence, the party described Jack as a tested leader with considerable legislative experience and strong community roots.
“Hon. Major Jack brings competence, loyalty, and an understanding of the yearnings of the people of Rivers State.
“His emergence completes a strong and inclusive ticket that reflects the diversity of our state,” the statement said.
Jack’s emergence adds another prominent political figure from the riverine axis to the APC’s 2027 campaign structure and is expected to enhance the party’s reach and grassroots mobilisation in the area.
The lawmaker joined the APC in December 2025 after defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), alongside the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, and several other lawmakers.
His defection was part of a broader political realignment within the Rivers State House of Assembly ahead of the 2027 elections.
Chinda, meanwhile, emerged as the APC’s governorship candidate following the party’s governorship primary held in May 2026.
With Jack’s emergence as his running mate, the APC will now proceed into the 2027 electoral contest with a ticket that party leaders say is designed to combine legislative experience, geographical balance and grassroots appeal.
The Chinda-Jack ticket is expected to form the centrepiece of the APC’s campaign as the party seeks to consolidate its position and expand its support base across Rivers State ahead of the election.
