The Amanyanabo of Kalabari Kingdom, His Serene Majesty, King (Prof) T. J. T. Princewill CFR, Amachree XI, has stated that High Chief (Dr) O. B. Lulu-Briggs was not known to him as the Regent of Abonnema.
He also debunked insinuations that he received Chief Lulu-Briggs in his palace as Regent of Abonnema on February 16th, 2018, noting that the tradition of the Kalabari people does not authorise him to recognize Lulu-Briggs as a Regent.
In a refutal titled “Purported Appointment and Reception of High Chief Dr. O. B. Lulu-Briggs, OON, on the 16th of February, 2018 in my Palace, Buguma City as Regent of Abonnema”,
published in some newspapers last week, the Kalabari Monarch stated that Lulu-Briggs only visited him in his palace as a brother, friend and chief of the Kalabari Kingdom and not in the capacity of Regent of Abonnema as insinuated in several quarters.
The Monarch also noted that Chief Lulu-Briggs was occupying the Daa Iniikeiroari Chieftaincy Stool of Abonnema, which is under the Daa Oruwari Briggs Stool. He however cautioned detractors and rumour peddlers to desist from such acts.
It would be recalled that Chief O. B. Lulu-Briggs on Friday, February 16th, 2018, visited the Amanyanabo of Kalabari at his palace in Buguma with some chiefs and presented himself as the Regent of Abonnema, which was widely circulated in the media.
However, the refutal and clarification by the Amanyanabo of Kalabari has put the matter to rest.
