Lack of Literacy is a major setback in Polio eradication- Omuku

The President of Rotary Club of Choba-UNIPORT, Rtn. Precious Adokiye  Omuku, spoke about his aspirations and plans for humanity, during the 2017/ 2018 Rotary year, in this exclusive interview with Gloria Harry.

Excerpts:

Question: What are your plans for the 2017/2018 Rotary year?

Response: First, standing by the ideals of Rotary and most especially, with the theme of this rotary year, which is ‘Making a difference’ , I am more than ever encouraged and challenged to contributing my club’s quota to affecting the people, community and society around our club. This forms the fulcrum of my goals for this year.

Question: Your Location, Choba -Uniport, How has it affected your club’s performance?

Response: My location is a plus for my club, because its both a community club and academic club, because 90% of its membership is based in the academia and that we have tapped as a source of strength, using our University platform to reach out to our Choba / Aluu communities and sensitising them on the need to join our family of Rotary by the work we do within and around the community.

Question: How would you evaluate Rotary’s achievement in its fight against Polio?

Response: Simply outstanding! unfortunately, the success recorded , the gap could have been closed if not for the lack of literacy in some very rural communities’ understanding and appreciating the need for vaccination. The story of polio should have been over by now. That is why the need for constant education and enlightenment becomes a priority and top focus for the club of Choba-Uniport.
