The Executive Chairman of Asari-Toru Local Government Area Hon. Mrs. Alaso Johnbull-Obi has announced the appointment of Chief Barr O.T.K.D. Amachree as the Regent of Kalabari Kingdom with mandate to preside over the affairs of the King Abbi, Buguma and Kalabari Council of Chiefs in the absence of the Amanyanabo of Kalabari Kingdom.
Speaking at a meeting with the King Abbi Council of Chiefs in Buguma yesterday October 28th, 2020, Mrs, Johnbull-Obi says the decision of government is based on the notification of the death of the Chairman of Buguma/Kalabari Council of Chiefs, Chief Charles Dauphin Amachree, who had been overseeing the affairs of the King Abbi, Buguma and Kalabari Council of Chiefs, thus creating a vacuum that has to be filled in the interest of peace and order of the traditional institution.
She urged the chiefs of the Council to maintain the peace which is the priority of government. “Government cannot run the affairs of the chieftaincy Councils, but where a vacuum is created in the leadership in the face of division and disagreement amongst the members, government has to step in and create order, and this we have done”, she declared.
