The Pioneer newspaper publishers’ association in Rivers State, under the aegis of Independent Newspaper Publishers Association of Rivers State, RIVPA, has constituted a three man committee led by the publisher of National Network Newspaper, Jerry Needam.Â
The resolution was reached at a crucial meeting of publishers at the Port Harcourt residence of a member of RIVPA Board of Trustees and Publisher of Port Harcourt Telegraph, Chief Ogbonna Nwuke, on October 11, 2019.
This decision was sequel to the vacuum that was created following internal crisis amongst publishers, that led to the resignation of Gloria Boma Harry the Publisher of Africa Update newspaper and other members of the State Executive.
Speaking at the meeting, Chief Nwuke enjoined publishers to sheath their swords with the view to create mutually beneficial alliances.
You will recall that RIVPA was engrossed in internal crisis that led to court cases during the administration of Prince Dimkpa Alikor, the predecessor of Harry.
The matter was judged in favour of Alikor and RIVPA against 6 members, who had attempted to unlawfully remove Alikor led State executive.
The court had ruled against them, granting damages to Alikor and RIVPA.With the constitution of the three man interim committee, RIVPA is set to harmonise interests and rejuvenate the association in preparation for an election in October, 2020.Other members of the three man interim committee include: The publisher of Niger Delta Today, Solomon Parakon as Secretary and The publisher of Independent Monitor, Evans Osi as member.
