National Orgasm Day, July 31, is upon us—and there’s a lot about orgasms that we still don’t understand. Luckily, Match’s Singles in America survey asked over 5,500 singles about their sex lives, and we have to admit some of the findings perplexed us (who knew your emoji usage could predict how easily you orgasm?). Here, a few other fun facts to celebrate this very important holiday.
1. People who smoke weed have more orgasms. Like, way more. Pot smokers surveyed were 109 percent more likely to have multiple orgasms.
2. Being politically active pays off. People who are more passionate about politics have more multiple orgasms and more orgasms in general.
3. Faking orgasms isn’t something just women do. 37 percent of men in Match’s survey said they’d faked orgasms before. The most common reasons they cited were because they weren’t enjoying sex anymore because they wanted to “show their partner that they loved them” and because they were too drunk to finish. The first two reasons were also top ones for women, and boosting partners’ self-esteem was also a big one for us.
4. Our parents are getting off more than us. Millennials have 12 percent fewer orgasms than boomers. Womp-womp.
5. Redheads have it best. We will not attempt to explain why, but for whatever reason, single women with red hair have the most orgasms, followed by blondes.
6. Miami is the place to get off. 60 percent of singles in the 305 orgasm during 90 to 100 percent of their sexual encounters.
7. Tech nerds are doing something right. Despite what stereotypes might lead you to believe, people working in computers and electronics have more orgasms than any other profession.
8. Emoji flirting is good for your sex life. Women who use the lips and kissing emoji have more orgasms with their partners…so it may be time to ramp up the sexting. (Source: Glamour)
Meanwhile two similar celebrations are around the corner. Interestingly, the International female orgasm day is celebrated on August 8, and the Global orgasm day comes up every December 22.
An article published by Cosmopolitan reads: Here’s a random fact of the day: there’s actually a law out there somewhere that men must ensure that their wives have an orgasm. How exactly that law is enforced, we don’t really know (can we really picture a woman busting through courthouse doors ready to sue her hubby because he didn’t make her climax? You never know)—but no, we’re not joking.
The law was passed in Espertina, Brazil by councilman Arimateio Dantas and actually coined the “holiday” International Female Orgasm Day (August 8). And even though we know everyday is International Female Orgasm Day in our book, we wanted to point out that it’s not as silly as it sounds. The point was to actually raise awareness of female sexuality because we’ve often been denied the right to explore our bodies or openly discuss sex—something Latino cultures have struggled with for centuries.
Similarly, another publication by Wikipedia reads: Global Orgasm was an action originally scheduled for 22 December 2006 by the author and activist couple of Donna Sheehan and Paul Reffell to coincide with the end of winter solstice. The idea was for participants throughout the world to have an orgasm during this one day while thinking about peace.
Based on ideas such as that of the noosphere and the work of the Global Consciousness Project at Princeton, it was thought that such an event would have a “widespread positive effect on human well-being.”
The “Second Annual Synchronized Global Orgasm for Peace” was scheduled for 6:08 (UTC) on 22 December 2007, the moment of the solstice.
The activity group is registered with the Global Consciousness Project (GCP), a project based at Princeton University, which records the output of numerous, random-number generators placed throughout the globe.
The events in 2006 were inspired by many groups and practices going back thousands of years relating to Tantra and other activities.
Global Orgasm Day has been operational in one form or another since 2000 over 21 and 22 December in private groups, and since 2012 have been more public, and operating in locations around the world.
