President Muhammadu Buhari hosted members of the House of Representatives who were elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to a dinner.
The president met with the lawmakers on Tuesday, April 16, inside the Banquet Hall of the State House in Abuja.
This is the second time the president will be hosting the lawmakers to a dinner in the year.
There has been a tussle about the leadership interest within the party ahead of the 9th assembly.
Although the party has reportedly adopted Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila as speaker of the House, he faces stiff competition from other members of the party particularly Ahmed Wase, member representing Plateau Wase federal constituency.
Meanwhile, the deputy national publicity secretary of the APC, Yekini Nabena has called on the party’s leadership to ensure that the zoning arrangement for the incoming 9th National Assembly reflects the remaining four geopolitical regions of the country.
Nabena made the commendation with emphasis on the fact that the president and the vice president are from the north-west and south-west respectively.
Speaking with journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, April 16, Nabena warned that if the party does not get it right now, 2023 elections might turn out to be a free fall all in the ruling party.
His words: “The APC has elected National Assembly members from all geopolitical zones of the country. Hence, the party’s leadership and indeed the presidency must take deliberate efforts to provide a fair and justifiable zoning arrangement for the 9th National Assembly leadership.”
