The Rivers State Government on Thursday banned public protests and rallies in the state.
A statement signed by the State Commissioner for Information, Emma Okah, said that the ban was “with immediate effect.”
Though no reason was given by Okah, close sources who spoke with Africa Update, are attributing the ban to series of protests that have engulfed the state following the suspension of electoral process for the Governorship and State Assembly elections in the state on March 10, 2019 by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC and stakeholders’ lack of confidence in the Rivers REC’s ability to conclude the process.
